This lab will let you determine the relationship between the amount you stretch your spring and the energy that you have given to the spring. Each time you stretch the spring, it will stretch to a different amount. Your task is to find the area under the force vs. stretch graph. This will give you the energy you added to the spring. I suggest doing at least 5 different stretches and finding the corresponding energies.

Before your do anything else, record the original length of your spring and the spring number you are using for this lab.

After you have done that, hit the start button to stretch your spring.
You want to stretch and record your data for a total of at least 5 trials.

If any of your trials give the same stretch as a previous trial, don't record that run, but reset and try stretching it again.
When you are done your five trials, stretch the spring one more time, but now determine the slope of your graph in N/m. (this is your spring constant)

Then create a graph of your Energies (J) vs. Stretch (m). Try to relate your graph constant to the spring constant of your spring.
Record the new length of the spring and the stretch of the spring.

Then determine the area under the force-distance graph given below. Working in meters for this graph will give you the energy you added to your spring in Joules.

Then hit reset to return your spring to its original length.
